3. Look for companies with a strong manangement team. Find out where they have worked before and look at their track record. A good management team can turn a so so company into a winner.
4. Look for strong balance sheets. Compnies with little debt, strong cash flow, and historically good earnings are good prospects.
5. Check out the portfolios of good mutual fund companies. If they are earning good returns year after year, they are holding some stocks you may want to buy.
6. Work hard. Do research. Read and watch the financial news. Study quarterly and annual reports as well as registration statements. Look for trends and oppurtunities.
7. Know when to cut your losses. You want to invest for the long term, but you still may buy a bad company from time to time. Don't fall in love with a bad company. Know when to sell.
